WW2 USO PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION WWII Living History Group We are a group of women and men dedicated to preserving the history of the United Service Organizations (USO) during the World War Two time period. Our mission is not only that of preservation, but also one of education. Our goal is to represent the experiences of the women and men of the World War Two era USO through participation in living history displays, re-enactments, parades, and ceremonies. Our purpose is to keep the memories of the World War Two generation alive by representing the stateside aspects of the dynamic service organization known as the USO. These include National Operations and Community Conducted Operations, exclusive of Camp Shows Inc., within the 48 conterminous states of the United States and the District of Columbia. Our members portray a wide range of folk, just like the real people of the World War Two USO. However, we are mainly concerned with the portrayal of the average Jane and average Joe; those unsung volunteer heroes of the USO, whose combined efforts were nothing short of herculean and their impact monumentally important to the nation's war effort. We do not portray pin-up girls, models, or Hollywood stars. We are not a performance group; our focus is history, research, and education. Our group is based in the Midwest, USA; specifically, Milwaukee, WI. In addition to having members in the greater Milwaukee area, we also have folks in Waukesha County, the Fox Cities region of northeastern Wisconsin, North Carolina, and South Carolina. We are affiliated with the World War Two Historical Re-enactment Society Inc. (HRS), Warbirds Living History Group, and USO Wisconsin. We aim to honor not only those that volunteered countless hours to the USO during the Second World War, but also to honor the many servicemen and women who served their country in its greatest time of need and who may have found comfort, entertainment, and a "Home Away From Home" through the efforts of the USO. The sacrifices made by all Americans during the war, from the front lines to the home front, must not be forgotten by future generations. We hope that through our efforts in education and preservation those invaluable memories and stories will be remembered for generations to come.
